At the Executive meeting on September 22, Coimbra City Council approved the proposal to create a single ticket for access to spaces at the University of Coimbra, Portugal dos Pequenitos and the Coimbra Municipal Museum. The measure is the result of a partnership between the three institutions and aims to promote an integrated cultural offer and strengthen the tourist attractiveness of the municipality.
The new ticket will cost 22 euros and will allow entry to five areas of the University of Coimbra (Palácio Real, Capela de São Miguel, Laboratório Chimico, Gabinete de Curiosidades and Museu Académico), all the visitable areas of Portugal dos Pequenitos (managed by the Bissaya Barreto Foundation) and three parts of the Municipal Museum (Edifício Chiado, Torre de Almedina and Torre de Anto), while the Edifício da Inquisição and the Sala da Cidade Antigo Refeitório do Mosteiro de Santa Cruz are free to enter. The proceeds will be split between the institutions: 10 euros for the University, 10 euros for the Bissaya Barreto Foundation and 2 euros for the City Council.
The Joanina Library and the Mikveh – Jewish Baths of Purification are excluded from the single ticket, which can be added separately, by appointment and payment of 5 euros each.
According to information from the municipal services, this proposal is part of Coimbra’s Tourism Strategy 2023-2025, specifically the measure to create a “Single Card/Coimbra Card”, and seeks to encourage more complete tours of the city, extend visitors’ stay and enhance less frequented cultural facilities, such as the Municipal Museum’s nuclei.
The operationalization of the ticket will be the responsibility of a technical working group, involving representatives of the three entities, which will be responsible for articulating calendars, sharing revenue and jointly promoting the initiative. The cooperation protocol between the parties will have an initial duration of two years, renewable automatically.
