Municipal Strategic Council discusses entrepreneurship and creative industries in Coimbra

September 16th

The Coimbra Municipal Strategic Council for Development (CEMDC) met on September 12 at the LUFAPO HUB building to discuss the future of the municipality and learn about projects linked to entrepreneurship and the creative industries.

On the agenda for the third meeting of the year was a presentation of the activities of the Ceramics and Glass Technology Centre (CTCV), a national benchmark in the modernization and competitiveness of the industry, and the LUFAPO HUB, a structure designed to host startups and scaleups, combining innovation, sustainability and creative industries. The project is inspired by the New European Bauhaus movement, promoted by the European Commission, which seeks to rethink urban spaces through co-creation and bringing together traditional, creative and technological industries.

The work of Cineway – Incubadora de Cinema e Audiovisual de Coimbra, dedicated to supporting directors, producers and professionals in the audiovisual sector, was also presented, as was the state of play of the @Baixa Coimbra – Bairros Comerciais Digitais project, funded by the PRR, which aims to digitize and modernize traditional commerce.

At the end of the session, the councillors presented their contributions to boosting the creative industries, an area that will be the central theme of the 2026 edition of the Coimbra Invest Summit. The meeting also included a visit to the LUFAPO HUB facilities.

The CEMDC is a consultative body created in 2023, made up of representatives from Coimbra City Council, the Municipal Assembly, parishes and parish unions, as well as academic and business institutions. The council meets on a rotating basis at its member institutions and its mission is to promote debate and cooperation between local and national players in order to strengthen the competitiveness and economic development of the municipality.

The meeting was attended by the mayor, José Manuel Silva, and the councillor for the Economy, Entrepreneurship, Investment and Employment, Miguel Fonseca.
