Sustainable Irrigation Project moves into a new phase of experimentation as part of #CoimbraCityLab

November 4th

The Sustainable Irrigation project, hosted at #CoimbraCityLab, the living experimentation laboratory of the Municipality of Coimbra, has moved on to a new phase of experimentation. The technological solution has been installed in Jardim da Manga, where it is currently being validated in a real environment. The aim of this stage is to test and validate the efficiency of the solution for more intelligent and sustainable management of irrigation in urban green spaces, promoting responsible use of water resources.

The Sustainable Irrigation Project consists of a network of autonomous solenoid valves with low energy consumption, controlled remotely and in an integrated manner, making it possible to optimize the irrigation of green areas. During this new experimentation phase, the solution will be tested in the Mango Garden to monitor and control the irrigation cycles. It is hoped that this experimentation phase will contribute to reducing water consumption, optimizing operational resources and demonstrating the applicability of this solution.

The Sustainable Irrigation experimentation is also part of Action 6.5 of the @Baixa Coimbra project, funded by the PRR’s Digital Business Neighbourhoods line, which aims to promote the digital and sustainable transformation of the city’s downtown. This synergy between projects reinforces Coimbra’s role as a laboratory city and reaffirms the role of #CoimbraCityLab, coordinated by the Coimbra Intelligence Center, as a platform for experimentation, demonstration and collaboration, promoting innovation at the service of urban sustainability.

It should be remembered that the #CoimbraCityLab is an initiative of the City Council of Coimbra to support the development and experimentation of innovative and sustainable technology-based ideas and projects in a real environment, through the provision of physical urban space and the technical knowledge and experience of municipal services, as well as serving as a facilitator in the creation of partnerships to support and continue the development of projects. The #CoimbraCityLab initiative is open to all natural and legal persons, both public and private, in the context of technological solution projects that meet the objectives and requirements set out in the regulation.
