From June to September this year, downtown Coimbra was once again the scene of an intense cultural program with the free Summer in Two Times program. An initiative promoted by Coimbra City Council (CM), in co-organization with four local cultural entities: Associação Há Baixa, Blue House, CAV / Encontros de Fotografia and Jazz ao Centro Clube.
Over four months, there were more than 100 free activities spread over five main stages (two in Praça do Comércio, Largo do Romal, Largo do Poço and A Feira store), as well as other emblematic spaces in Baixa.
Concerts, performances, workshops for children, themed visits, artistic residencies and creations with the community gave shape to a diverse agenda, which mobilized more than 10,000 people and clearly contributed to the cultural and social dynamism of the city.
More than a succession of events, Verão a Dois Tempos consolidated itself as a project to bring the physical and immaterial territory of downtown Coimbra closer together, reinforcing the role of art and culture as engines of urban transformation, encounter and civic participation.
In this edition, the challenge launched to Coimbra’s professional cultural structures made it possible to rethink Baixa from different artistic languages and cultural identities, reinforcing the collaborative and community nature of the program.
The success of Verão a Dois Tempos 2025 was only possible thanks to the wide network of local partnerships. In addition to the four co-organizers, the programme also counted on the collaboration of the Escola da Noite, the Associação para a Promoção da Baixa de Coimbra, the Associação Cultural Festival das Artes QuebraJazz and the União de Freguesias de Coimbra, which helped to enrich and diversify the cultural offer.
The balance of this edition confirms Verão a Dois Tempos as a benchmark initiative in the city’s cultural agenda, capable of promoting the crossing of audiences, revitalizing downtown spaces and affirming Coimbra as a territory of culture, creativity and encounter.
