Coimbra City Council Steps Up Efforts to Revitalize the D. Pedro V Market with a New Lineup for October

In October, the Coimbra City Council is stepping up its strategy to revitalize the D. Pedro V Municipal Market with a regular program that combines gastronomy, music, family activities, wine, literature, fashion, and a special Halloween event. The program kicks off tomorrow, October 2, and aims to create new reasons to visit the municipal facility, attract diverse audiences, support local merchants, and strengthen the Market’s connection to the city’s daily life.

The new program builds on the measures to promote the market recently presented by the City, including the “Mercado, I’m Going,” developed to strengthen the Market’s identity and promotion; the provision of new shopping carts for customers, aprons for vendors, and new identification badges for employees.

It is also part of a broader strategy to bring the Market closer to consumers and create better conditions for shoppers, alongside initiatives such as “O Mercado em Casa,” which offers free home delivery in the municipality of Coimbra, for purchases totaling 20 euros or more, and the proposal to extend the free parking period for market customers to one hour.

The cultural and commercial program now adds a new dimension to this strategy through the creation of regular initiatives that aim to generate foot traffic throughout the week and on weekends, increase the frequency and diversity of visitors, foster new visiting habits, and encourage the discovery of what different merchants have to offer.

For October, the City has identified autumn flavors, families, wine, and Halloween as its main themes, seeking simultaneously to highlight seasonal products, extend the time visitors spend at the Market, and create experiences tailored to different audiences.
