Freedom Day in Coimbra celebrated with a concert by the band Cara de Espelho

April 20th

Praça do Comércio will host a concert offered by the Coimbra City Council to commemorate the April 1974 Revolution. The band Cara de Espelho will present songs from “B”, the title of their most recent album. The concert is scheduled for 6:00 PM on April 25th.

The Cara de Espelho collective will be in Coimbra on April 25th to perform live the songs from “B”, the band’s second album, released in January, which features remarkably orchestrated themes and lyrics reminiscent of protest songs. Starting at 6:00 PM, the band will be performing songs such as “A Seita”, “D de Denúncia”, “Bem-Vindo”, “AI”, “Cara Podre” and “Aldeia Fantasma”, among others, in Praça do Comércio. These songs affirm the unique identity of this band, which blends Portuguese tradition, contemporary sounds, and incisive lyrics that reflect and question the world around us. Formed in 2024 by renowned musicians – Carlos Guerreiro (multi-instruments), Luís J Martins (guitar), Nuno Prata (bass), Pedro da Silva Martins (guitar), and Sérgio Nascimento (drums), accompanied by the unique voice of Maria Antónia Mendes – the band Cara de Espelho is already considered one of the most innovative and promising in the national artistic scene. Their self-titled album, “Cara de Espelho”, debuted in 2024 and was widely acclaimed by critics. They were included in the Best of the Year lists of Rádio Radar, Blitz and Expresso, and earned them the title of Best Band at the Futurawards (Rádio Futura) and the PLAY Award for Best Reinterpretation of Traditional Music. 2025 was the year of consolidation for the band, which has already performed on several stages and festivals such as Bons Sons, MED Loulé, FMM Sines and MEO Kalorama. In Coimbra, in this concert that evokes Freedom using art as a form of criticism and intervention, Cara de Espelho present themselves with new music and the unmistakable energy that has made them one of the most exciting bands in current Portuguese music.
