Market parking and access to Alta reopen after stabilization at Cerca de Santo Agostinho.
The upper parking lot of the D. Pedro V Municipal Market and access to the upper part of the city via Rua da Fonte Nova were reopened in the early afternoon of today, May 25th, following the completion of the temporary stabilization work carried out after the landslide caused by Storm Kristin in February on the slope of Cerca de Santo Agostinho. The reopening restores essential access to the upper part of the city, ensuring the necessary safety conditions for traffic in that area.
The reopening was overseen by councilors Ricardo Lino and Luís Filipe, as well as municipal technical services, after validation of the necessary conditions for vehicular and pedestrian traffic in this area of the historic center.
Stabilization allowed the reopening of access to Alta
The intervention carried out allowed for the removal of debris, the reshaping of the slope, and the execution of temporary containment work on the wall of Rua da Fonte Nova, creating the stability conditions that now allow the reopening of traffic.
The need for future intervention on a wall located between the beginning of Rua da Fonte Nova and the upper parking lot of the D. Pedro V Municipal Market remains identified. However, this situation does not compromise the currently existing safety conditions or traffic in that area, which is why it was reopened to traffic today.
Emergency Work Following Landslide Caused by Storm Kristin
It should be recalled that the contract was awarded to the company Teixeira Duarte, Engenharia e Construções, S.A., for a value of €190,800 (VAT included), following the landslide caused by episodes of intense rainfall associated with Storm Kristin, which caused significant damage to the hillside and led to the preventive closure of roads and municipal facilities.
For the next two days, Rua Martins de Carvalho will be temporarily closed for work carried out by Águas de Coimbra, EM.
The Municipality will continue to monitor the situation and carry out the necessary interventions to ensure safety and the normalization of traffic in that area.
