Quema de las cintas: El desfile interrumpe el tráfico en Coimbra y altera la red de transporte público de SMTUC el domingo.

The traditional Queima das Fitas parade will cause traffic disruptions and significant changes to the Coimbra Municipal Urban Transport Services (SMTUC) network next Sunday, May 24th. The disruptions will begin at 12:00 PM, especially in the upper, lower, and left bank areas of the city, and will continue throughout the afternoon and evening. with the Queima das Fitas parade and recommend the use of public transport whenever possible. Road traffic will be cut off on several streets along the parade route, namely Rua Larga, Largo D. Dinis, Calçada Martim de Freitas, Praça da República, Avenida Sá da Bandeira, Rua Olímpio Nicolau Rui Fernandes, Rua da Sofia, Avenida Fernão de Magalhães, Portagem, Ponte de Santa Clara and Avenida João das Regras.

With the arrival of the floats at Avenida João das Regras, traffic will also be cut off on Avenida Inês de Castro and Estrada das Lages.

SMTUC Changes from 1:00 PM

Following the restrictions, SMTUC will implement a special operating plan, with temporary changes to dozens of lines, alternative routes, suspension of services and the creation of a reinforcement line.

Lines 4 and 103 will be suspended from 1:00 PM, while the Botanical Line (244) will not operate throughout the day due to the closure of the Botanical Garden.

Several bus lines will now begin or end their service on Avenida da Guarda Inglesa, next to the São Francisco Convent, and on Ínsua dos Bentos, on Avenida da Lousã, in order to minimize the impact on traffic.

SMTUC will also provide a special service via Line 54, which will operate exclusively this Sunday, between 1:00 PM and 9:00 PM, with frequencies between 15 and 20 minutes.

Parking restrictions and additional limitations

Car parking will be prohibited in several areas along the parade route between May 22nd and 24th, including Largo da Feira, Largo Marquês de Pombal, Largo D. Dinis, Calçada Martim de Freitas, Praça da República, Rua António Granjo, and the D. Pedro V Market parking lot.

Between May 22nd and 31st, there will also be restrictions on picking up and dropping off passengers by taxis and ride-hailing services in an area surrounding Praça da Canção, daily between 7:00 PM and 6:00 AM.

During the concert nights, and depending on the number of attendees, the Santa Clara Bridge may also be closed in both directions, by decision of the security forces.

The Coimbra City Council and SMTUC (Coimbra Municipal Transport Services) appeal to the public for understanding regarding the temporary constraints associated with the Queima das Fitas parade and recommend the use of public transport whenever possible.
